Cauda, 12. ve 13. yüzyılın ortaları arasında gelişen cappella müziğinin Conductus tarzındaki şarkılar için karakteristik bir özelliktir. Davranış biçimi kompozisyon konusunda sıkı kurallar koydu ve bazı kurallar her ayette sondan bir önceki hece olan cauda'ya ayrıldı.
