Zaman zaman yeni ekonomik tarih ya da ekonometrik tarih olarak adlandırılan kliometri, ekonomik teorinin, ekonometrik tekniklerin ve diğer biçimsel ya da matematiksel yöntemlerin tarih araştırmalarına sistematik olarak uygulanmasıdır. Ekonomik tarihin kantitatif bir yaklaşımıdır. Kliometri terimi, tarihin ilham kaynağı olan Clio'dan geldi ve başlangıçta 1960 yılında matematiksel ekonomist Stanley Reiter tarafından hazırlandı.
