Colosseum
Flavian Amphitheatre olarak da bilinen Colosseum veya Coliseum, İtalya'nın Roma kentinin merkezinde eliptik bir amfitiyatrodur. Beton ve taş imalathanesi, Roma İmparatorluğunun en büyük tiyatro oyuncağıydı ve Roma mimarisi ve mühendisliğinin en büyük eserlerinden biri olarak kabul ediliyor. Dünyadaki en büyük amfitiyatrodur. Colosseum, Roma Forumunun hemen doğusunda yer almaktadır. MS 70 yılında İmparator Vespasian tarafından inşaata başlanan ve MS 80'de, halefi ve Titus'un mirasçısı tarafından inşaatı tamamlanmıştır. Domitian döneminde başka değişiklikler yapılmıştır. Bu üç imparator Flavian hanedanı olarak bilinir ve amfitiyatro Latin adıyla soyadlarıyla ilişkisi adına seçilmiştir. Tahmini olarak 50.000 ila 80.000 seyirci tutabilir ve sahte deniz savaşları, hayvan avları, infazlar, ünlü savaşların yeniden düzenlenmesi ve Klasik mitolojiye dayanan dramalar gibi gladyatör yarışma ve kamera gözlüğü için kullanıldı. Binanın erken Ortaçağ döneminde eğlence amaçlı kullanılmasına son verildi.
