Kolektivizm, her insanın birbirine bağımlılığını vurgulayan herhangi bir felsefi, politik, dini, ekonomik veya sosyal görünümdür. Kolektivizm, insanın doğasında bireyciliğin tersi olarak var olan temel bir kültürel unsurdur. Kolektivist yönelimler toplumsal gruplar içindeki uyumun önemini ve bazı durumlarda bireysel hedefler üzerinde grup hedeflerinin önceliğini vurgular. Kollektivistler çoğunlukla toplum, toplum, ulus ya da ülkeye odaklanırlar. Tarih boyunca birçok farklı ve çeşitli hükümet türü ve siyasi, ekonomik ve eğitim felsefesinde bir unsur olarak kullanılmıştır ve çoğu insan topluluğu pratikte hem bireycilik hem de kolektivizm unsurları içermektedir. Yatay kollektivizm, eşit bireyler arasında toplu karar vermeyi vurgular ve bu nedenle genellikle ademi merkeziyet ve eşitlikçilik temel alır. Dikey kollektivizm, iktidarın hiyerarşik yapılarına, ahlaki ve kültürel uygunluğa dayanır ve bu nedenle merkezileşme ve hiyerarşiye dayanır.
