Bileşik motor
Bir bileşik motor, birinci aşamadaki egzozu ikinci aşamadan geçen bazı durumlarda ve daha sonra başka bir aşamaya veya hatta aşamalardan geçerek, aynı çalışma akışkanından enerji geri kazanımı için birden fazla aşamaya sahip bir motordur. Başlangıçta buhar motorlarının daha verimli hale getirilmesi için bir araç olarak icat edilen motorlar, içten yanmalı motorlarda çeşitli aşamalarda motor kompresyonu yapmakta ve orada niş pazarlara sahip olmaya devam etmektedir. Bileşik bir motorun aşamaları ya farklı ya da benzeri teknolojiler olabilir, örneğin: ▪ Bir turbo bileşimli motorda, silindirlerden çıkan egzoz gazı bir türbin içinden geçer; iki aşama birbirine benzemez. ▪ Bileşik bir buharlı lokomotifde buhar, yüksek basınç silindirlerinden veya silindirlerden düşük basınç silindirine veya silindirlere geçer; bu iki aşama benzerdir. ▪ Üçlü genleşme buhar motorunda, bu buhar artan boyutta ve azalan basınca sahip üç ardışık silindirden geçer.
