Bilgisayarda, çoklu görev, aynı zaman diliminde birden fazla göreve uygulanan ve ardışık yerine eşzamanlı olarak uygulanan bir yöntemdir. Görevler, CPU ve ana bellek gibi ortak işleme kaynaklarını paylaşır. Çoklu görev, mutlaka birden çok görevin tam olarak aynı anda yürütülmesi anlamına gelmez. Bir başka deyişle, çoklu görev, paralellik taşıdığına işaret etmez, ancak birden fazla görevin aynı anda yürütülmesi yoluyla yarı yolda olabileceği anlamına gelir ve belirli bir süre boyunca birden fazla görev ilerliyor demektir. Tek bir CPU'lu bir bilgisayar durumunda, yalnızca bir görevin herhangi bir noktada çalıştığı söylenir; yani, CPU'nun bu görev için talimatları aktif olarak yürüttüğü anlamına gelir.
