Sözlüğe ilişkin ilk tanımlama karşılıklı, tamamlayıcı veya karşılıklı ilişki içindedir; tekabül eder. Karşılıklı terimlerin diğer tanımı, belirli gramer yapılarında bitişik olmamakla birlikte, örneğin ne yedi ne de içtiği gibi cümlelerde, genellikle bağlaçlar olan kelimeleri belirtir. Korelatif aynı zamanda birbiriyle ilişkili olan iki şeyden biri.
