Cryonics, çağdaş tıpta tutunamayan insanların düşük sıcaklıkta korunmasıdır; gelecekte şifa ve resüsitasyonun mümkün olabileceği umuduyla. İnsanların veya büyük hayvanların kriyoprezervasyonu mevcut teknoloji ile tersine çevrilebilir değildir. Cryonics için belirtilen mantık, mevcut yasal veya tıbbi tanımlarla ölü sayılan kişilerin, daha katı bilgiler ve teorik ölüm tanımı uyarınca ölmüş olmayabileceğidir. Kriyoterapif kişilerin bir gün son derece ileri teknoloji kullanarak kurtarılacağı öneriliyor. Bazı bilimsel literatür kriyotik fizibilitesini desteklemektedir. Aubrey de Grey ve Marvin Minsky'nin de aralarında bulunduğu 63 bilim adamı, kriyotik fikrini destekleyen bir Açık Mektubu imzaladı.
