Dendrite
Dendritler, diğer nöral hücrelerden alınan elektrokimyasal uyarıları, dendritlerin projelendiği nöronun hücre gövdesine veya soma'ya yaymak için hareket eden bir nöronun dallı projeksiyonlarıdır. Elektrik uyarıları, dendritik ağaç boyunca çeşitli noktalarda bulunan sinapslar aracılığıyla yukarı akış nöronları tarafından dendritlere iletilir. Dendritler, bu sinaptik girdilerin bütünleştirilmesinde ve aksiyon potansiyellerinin nöron tarafından ne ölçüde üretildiğinin belirlenmesinde kritik bir rol oynamaktadır. Bağışıklık sistemi dendritik hücrelerdeki uzun büyüme dendritler olarak da adlandırılır. Bunlar, nöron üzerindeki dendritler ile karıştırılmamalıdır. Dendritik hücreler, memeli bağışıklık sisteminde antijen sunan hücrelerdir. Onların dendritleri elektrik sinyallerini işleyemez. Dendritler, bir nöronun hücre gövdesinden ekstrüzyona tabi tutulan iki tip protoplazmik çıkıntıdan biridir, diğeri aksondur. Aksonlar şekil, uzunluk ve fonksiyon gibi çeşitli özelliklerle dendritlerden ayırt edilebilir. Dendritler çoğunlukla şekli hafifletir ve daha kısa olur, aksonlar ise sabit bir yarıçapı korur ve nispeten uzun süre kalma eğilimi gösterir.

Sözlükte dendrite'nin ilk tanımı da denir: Dendron. hücre gövdesine doğru itkiler yürüten bir sinir hücresinin kısa dallı iplik benzeri uzantılarından herhangi biri. Dendritin diğer tanımı, bazı kayalar ve minerallerde dallandırıcı yosun benzeri bir kristal yapıdadır. Dendrite aynı zamanda büyüme sırasında dallanan ve bir ağaç biçimli bir kristaldir.
