Determinizm, insan eylemi de dahil olmak üzere her olay için başka bir olaya neden olmayacak koşulların bulunduğu felsefi konumudur. "Önceden koşulların, bir olayın belirleyici olduğu düşünülen koşullara bağlı olarak birçok determinizm var." Felsefe tarihi boyunca deterministik teoriler, çeşitli ve bazen çakışan güdüler ve düşüncelerden kaynaklanmaktadır. Determinizmin bazı biçimleri, fizik ve fizik felsefesinden gelen fikirlerle ampirik olarak test edilebilir. Determinizmin tam tersi bir çeşit indeterminizmdir.
