Diktatör mutlak otoriteyi yöneten bir hükümdardır. Diktatörün yönettiği bir devlete diktatörlük denir. Sözcüğü antik Roma'da bir sulh hakiminin başlığı olarak ortaya çıkmıştı, acil durumlarda cumhuriyete Senato tarafından karar verildi.
