Aynı cümlede iki olumsuzluk biçimi kullanıldığında çift negatif olur. Birden çok olumsuzlama, bir maddedeki birden fazla negatif olaya işaret eden daha genel bir terimdir. Bazı dillerde, çift negatifler birbirlerini iptal eder ve olumlu bir anlam üretir; diğer dillerde ise, iki katına çıkan negatifler olumsuzlamayı yoğunlaştırmaktadır.
