Downregülasyon, bir hücrenin, harici bir değişkene tepki olarak, RNA veya protein gibi bir hücresel bileşen miktarını azalttığı süreçtir. Hücresel bir bileşenin artışına upregülasyon denir. Downregülasyona bir örnek, hücrenin moleküle duyarlılığını düşüren bir hormona veya sinir iletici gibi bir moleküle reseptör sayısındaki hücresel azalmadır. Bu olgu yerel olarak etki eden bir negatif geri bildirim mekanizmasına bir örnektir.
