Edom
Edom ya da Idumea, Yahudi ve Ölü Deniz'in güneyinde yer alan Güney Levant'ın semite yerleşmiş bir tarihi bölgedir. İncil'deki kayıtlarda M.Ö. 1. binyıl Demir Çağı Edom krallığı olarak bahsedilmektedir ve klasik antik dönemde aynı bölgenin daha küçük bir alanına atıfta bulunan kimliğin adı Idumea kullanılmıştı. Edom adı İbranice olarak "kırmızı" anlamına gelir ve Kutsal Kitap'ın doğduğu andan itibaren ironik olarak kullandığı "kırmızı potasyum" u yedikten sonra İbrani atası İshak'ın en büyük oğlu Esau'ya verilmiştir "her yere kırmızı" ". Tevrat, Tanah ve Yeni Antlaşma böylece Edomları Esav'ın torunları olarak tanımlıyor.
