Spandex veya elastan, istisnai elastikiyeti ile bilinen sentetik bir elyaftır. Güçlü, ancak sentetik olmayan rakiplerinden, doğal latekslerden daha az dayanıklı. 1959'da Waynesboro, Virginia'daki Du Pont'un Benger Laboratuarında kimyager C.L. Sandquist ve Joseph Shivers tarafından icat edilen bir poliüretan-poliüre kopolimeridir. İlk tanıtıldığında, giyim endüstrisinin birçok alanını devrim yaptı.
