Epir
Epirus / ɨpaɪərəs /, Yunanistan ve Arnavutluk arasında paylaşılan, güneydoğu Avrupa'daki coğrafi ve tarihi bir bölgedir. Kuzey Vlorë Körfezi'nden Kuzeydeki Acroceraunian dağlarına uzanan Pindus Dağları ile İyon Denizi arasında, Ambracian Körfezi'ne ve güneydeki Nicopolis'in yıkık Roma kentine uzanır. Şu anda kuzeybatı Yunanistan'daki Epir bölgesi ile güney Arnavutluk'taki Gjirokastër, Vlorë ve Berat ilçeleri arasında bölünmüştür. Epirüs'ün en büyük şehri, Epiranın Arnavutluk bölgesindeki en büyük şehri olan Gjirokastër ile Epirus bölgesinin koltuğu olan Yanya şehridir. Dağlık ve engebeli bir bölge olan Epirus, antik Yunan'ın kuzey-batı bölgesidir. Chaonians, Molossians ve Thesprotians'ın Yunan kabileleri tarafından yaşanmış ve en eski eski Yunan kehaneti olan Dodona kutsal alanı ve Delphi'den sonra en prestijli bölge ev sahipliği yapıyordu. M.Ö. 370'da tek bir devlet haline dönüşen Epirus, Roma'ya karşı yürütülen kampanyaların "Pyrralı zafer" teriminin kaynağı olan Epir Pyrrhus devrinde şöhretini elde etti.
