Başlangıçta bir sessiz / h / yi ifade eden Yunanca Klasik Attic lehçesindeki ses değeri, ortaçağ Yunancasında yetiştirilen ve iotacizm olarak bilinen bir süreç olan uzun bir sesli harf niteliğindeydi. Yunanca rakamlar sisteminde 8 değeri vardır. Bu, Fenikel mektubundan geldi. Eta'dan çıkan mektuplarda Latince H ve Kiril mektubu bulunmaktadır.
