Değerlendirme, bir standardın kuralları tarafından yönetilen ölçütleri kullanarak bir öznenin mülkiyetinin, değerinin ve öneminin sistematik bir şekilde belirlenmesidir. Karar vermeye yardımcı olmak için herhangi bir amacı, gerçekleşebilir kavram / teklifi veya herhangi bir alternatifi değerlendirmek için bir organizasyona, programa, projeye veya başka herhangi bir müdahaleye veya girişime yardımcı olabilir; veya tamamlanmış olan herhangi bir eylemin amaç ve hedefleri ile sonuçlarına ilişkin başarı derecesini veya değerini tespit etmek. Değerlendirmenin başlıca amacı, önceki veya mevcut girişimlere ilişkin fikir edinmenin yanı sıra, gelecekteki değişimin belirlenmesine yansımayı ve yardımcı olmayı sağlamaktır. Değerlendirme genellikle sanat, ceza adaleti, vakıflar, kâr amacı gütmeyen kuruluşlar, hükümet, sağlık hizmetleri ve diğer insan hizmetleri de dahil olmak üzere geniş bir yelpazedeki beşeri girişimlerde çıkar çatışmalarını karakterize etmek ve değerlendirmek için kullanılır.
