Excimer
Bir eksimer, iki türe ait kısa ömürlü bir dimerik veya heterodimerik molekül olup, bunlardan en az biri elektronlar vasıtasıyla tamamen valens kabuğunu doldurmuştur. Bu durumda molekül oluşumu, ancak bu tür bir atomun elektronik uyarılmış durumdaysa mümkündür. Heteronükleer moleküller ve ikiden fazla türe sahip moleküllere eksiplex moleküller denir. Eksimerler genellikle iki atomludur ve her ikisi de taban durumunda olsaydı bağlanmayacak iki atomdan veya moleküllerden oluşurlar. Bir excimer'in ömrü nanosaniye düzeyinde çok kısadır. Çok sayıda heyecanlı atomun bağlanması Rydberg madde kümelerini oluşturur, ömrü saniyeyi aşabilir.
