Boşaltım, metabolizmadaki atık ürünlerin ve diğer yararlı olmayan materyallerin bir organizmadan yok edilmesi sürecidir. Omurgalılarda bu öncelikle akciğerler, böbrekler ve cilt tarafından yapılır. Bu, hücrenin ayrılmasından sonra maddenin belirli görevlere sahip olabileceği salgının aksine. Boşaltım her yaşam biçiminde önemli bir süreçtir. Yaprağın bir "excretophore" olarak hareket ettiği ve yeşil bir bitkinin fotosentez organı olmasının yanı sıra bitkinin toksik atıkları atma yöntemi olarak da kullanıldığı gösterilmiştir.
