Graves hastalığı otoimmün bir hastalıktır. Sıklıkla tiroidini etkiler, sıklıkla kalp atışı, kas güçsüzlüğü, rahatsız uyku ve iritabilite gibi ilgili hipertiroid semptomları ile aşırı boyuta veya iki katına çıkmasına neden olur. Ayrıca gözleri şişirmeye neden olan gözleri de etkiler. Cilt, kalp, dolaşım ve sinir sistemi dahil olmak üzere vücudun diğer sistemlerini etkiler. Kadın nüfusun% 2'sini etkiler, bazen doğumdan sonra ortaya çıkar ve kadınlarda erkeklerden 7 ila 8 kat daha sık oluşur. Genetik faktörler, muhtemelen riskin yaklaşık% 80'ini oluşturan önemli bir faktördür. Sigara içimi ve ikinci el dumana maruz kalma göz bulguları ile ilişkilidir, ancak tiroid bulguları ile ilgili değildir. Teşhis genellikle semptomlar temel alınarak yapılmaktadır, ancak tiroid hormonu testleri özellikle tedaviyi izlemek için yararlı olabilir.
