Alev testi, kimyada, her elemanın karakteristik emisyon spektrumuna dayalı olarak, esas olarak metal iyonlarının varlığını tespit etmek için kullanılan analitik bir prosedürdür. Alevlerin rengi de sıcaklığa bağlı; Alev rengine bak. Test, elemanın veya bileşiğin bir numunesinin sıcak, parlak olmayan bir alevi takdim etmesini ve sonuçta oluşan alevin rengini gözlemeyi içerir. Test fikri, örnek atomların buharlaşması ve sıcak olduklarından alev içinde olduğunda ışık yayarlar. Yığın örneği de ışık yayar, ancak ışığı analiz için iyi değildir. Toplu numune, öncelikle atomların hareketi nedeniyle ışık yayar, bu nedenle geniş yelpazedeki renklerden oluşan geniş bir yelpazedir.
