Florür floritin ana bileşenidir ve florür tuzlarına karşı herhangi bir koku olmaksızın kendine özgü acı bir tada sahiptir. Onun tuzları esas olarak hidrojen florürün öncüsü olarak çıkarılır. Zayıf bir baz olarak sınıflandırıldığında, konsantre florür çözeltileri cilt tahrişine neden olacaktır. Florür en basit tekli florin anyonudur ve diğeri geçici olarak incelenen triflorat anyonudur. Tuzları önemli kimyasal reaktifler ve özellikle florokarbonlar için hidrojen florür üretiminde kullanılan endüstriyel kimyasallardır.
