Venus flytrap, Dionaea muscipula, Birleşik Devletlerin Doğu Sahili'nde subtropikal sulak alanlara özgü etçil bir bitkidir. Avının başta böceklerini ve araknitlerini yakalar; bitki yapraklarının her birinin terminal kısmı tarafından oluşturulan ve iç yüzeylerinde küçük tüyler tarafından tetiklenen bir sıkıştırma yapısı ile. Yapraklar boyunca sürünen bir böcek veya örümcek bir saçla temas ettiğinde, ilk grevin yirmi saniye içinde farklı bir saçla temas ederse, tuzak kapanır. Bu mekanizmada gereksiz tetiklemenin yapılması gereği, besin değeri olmayan nesneleri yakalamak için enerji israfına karşı bir koruma sağlar. Dionaea, hepsi de Droseraceae ailesine ait su değirmeni bitkisi ve saman kuşlarıyla yakından alakalı olan monotip bir cins.
