Fümarol
Bir fumarol, genellikle karbon dioksit, kükürt dioksit, hidrojen klorür ve hidrojen sülfit gibi buhar ve gazlar yayan yanardağların bulunduğu bir gezegenin kabuğunun bir açılımıdır. Buhar, aşırı ısınmış su zeminden çıktığı zaman basınç düştüğünde buhar haline dönüştüğünde yaratılır. İtalyan solfo, kükürt solfatara, sülfür gazlar veren fumarole verilir. Fumarollar, küçük çatlaklar veya uzun çatlaklar boyunca, kaotik kümeler veya tarlalarda, lav akışlarının yüzeylerinde ve piroklastik akışların kalın çökellerinde oluşabilir. Bir fumarol alanı, sığ derinlikteki magma veya sıcak magmatik kayaların gazları serbest bırakması veya yeraltı suları ile etkileşime girmesi durumunda termal yayların ve gaz deliklerinin bulunduğu bir alandır. Yeraltı suyu perspektifinden, fumarollar, suyun yüzeye çıkmadan önce kaynayan kaynama kaynağı olarak tanımlanabilir. Fumarollar, eğer ısınan bir ısı kaynağının üzerindeyse ya da hızla soğuyan yeni bir volkanik mevduatın üstünde meydana gelirse, birkaç hafta ila birkaç ay sonra kaybolurlarsa, onlarca yıllarca ya da yüzyıllarca devam edebilir.
