Safra taşı
Safra taşı safra kesesi içerisinde safra komponentlerinin toplanmasıyla oluşan kristalin bir konkresyondur. Bu taşlar safra kesesinde oluşur ancak kistik kanal, ortak safra kanalları, pankreas kanalı veya Vater ampulası gibi safra kanalının diğer bölümlerine distal olarak geçebilir. Seyrek olarak, şiddetli inflamasyon vakalarında, safra taşı safra kesesi yoluyla bağırsak içine aşınarak safra taşı ileusu olarak adlandırılan bir tıkanıklığa neden olabilir. Safra kesesinin safra kesesinde olması akut kolesistit, safra kesesinde safra tutulması ile karakterize, çoğunlukla Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter ve Bacteroides türlerinin bağırsak mikroorganizmaları tarafından sekonder enfeksiyon şeklinde karakterize bir enflamatuvar duruma neden olabilir. Safra yollarının tıkanıklığına, safra taşlarının safra yollarının diğer bölümlerinde bulunması, kolanjit veya pankreatit artışı gibi ciddi durumlara neden olabilir. Bu iki durumdan biri ya hayatı tehdit edici olabilir ve bu nedenle tıbbi aciller olarak düşünülür.
