Balık ölçek
Çoğu kemikli ve kıkırdaklı balıkların derileri terazilerle kaplıdır. Ölçekler, karides ve kutu balıkları gibi katı zırh plakalarından, yılanbalığı ve anglerfishes gibi balıklarda mikroskobik veya eksikliğe kadar boyut, şekil, yapı ve ölçüde muazzam ölçüde değişir. Bir ölçeğin morfolojisi, geldiği balık türlerini tanımlamak için kullanılabilir. Ölçeklerin başlıca türleri, somon ve sazanın sikloid terazileri, levrek ctenoid skalaları, köpekbalıkları ve ışınların plaskoy terazileri, mersin balıkları ve garson ganoid terazileri. Balık ölçekleri, onları sürüngen terazilerinden ayıran dermisin mezoderm tabakasından üretilir. Memelerde diş ve saç gelişiminde rol oynayan genler de ölçek geliştirmede yer alır.
