Gazlaştırma, organik veya fosil yakıtlı karbonlu materyalleri karbon monoksit, hidrojen ve karbondioksite dönüştüren bir süreçtir. Bu, materyali yüksek sıcaklıklarda, yanma olmadan, kontrol edilen oksijen ve / veya buhar miktarı ile reaksiyona sokarak başarılır. Ortaya çıkan gaz karışımına sentez veya üretici gaz denir ve kendisi bir yakıttır.
