GENERAL SEMANTICS SÖZCÜĞÜ İNGILIZCE DİLİNDE NE ANLAMA GELİR?

Genel semantik, insan beyninde yapılan değerlendirme operasyonlarını düzenlemek isteyen 1920'li yıllarda başlayan bir programdır. Polonyalı Amerikalı kökenli Alfred Korzybski "insan mühendisliği" ve "insanbilim" isimleri altında kısmi başlattıktan sonra, programı 1933'te Bilim ve Zeka'nın yayınlanmasıyla "genel semantik" olarak tamamen başlattı: Aristotel Olmayan Sistemlere Giriş ve Genel Anlambilim . Genel semantik genelleştirilmiş semantik ile karıştırılmamalıdır. Disiplin adına izlenebilecek yanlış anlamalar, programın tarihini ve gelişimini büyük ölçüde karmaşık hale getirmiştir. Genel anlambilim Bilim ve Zeka Kaynağı kitabı genel anlambilimini hem insan davranışını hem de daha sağlıklı olarak yönlendirebilen teorik ve pratik bir sistem olarak sunar. Yazarı, genel anlambilim eğitiminin sonunda insanları ve ulusları birleştirebileceğini iddia etti. Korzybski, 1947'de Bilim ve Zekâ'nın üçüncü basımı önsözünde "İnsan doğası değiştirilemez" şeklindeki eski dogma ile kendimizi körlememize gerek yok; çünkü değiştirilebileceğini görüyoruz.
