Fransız gorge boğazdan gelen bir gorget / ɡɔrdʒɨt / /, başlangıçta ortaçağda bir kadının boynuna ve kafasına sarılı bir keten bandı veya basit bir koruyucu başlığın alt kısmıydı. Terim, boğazını, bir dizi plaka zırhını veya boyundan asılı ve boğazı ve göğsü örten tek bir plaka zırh parçasını korumak üzere tasarlanmış bir çelik veya deri yaka tanımladı.
