Hematein
Hematin veya hematin boyama için kullanılan hematoksilenin oksitlenmiş bir türevidir. Hemagin'in ayrışmasıyla oluşan, kahverengi ila siyah demir içeren bir pigment olan hematinin, hematin ile karıştırılmaması gerekir. Renk İndeksinde, haematine, haematine denir; bu da, bileşimin bir amin olduğu yanlış anlaşılan kafa karıştırıcı bir kelimedir. Hematin, mavi ve sulu alkalin koşullarında daha az çözünür ve alkollü asidik koşullarda daha fazla çözünür olan indikatör benzeri özellikler sergilemektedir. Çözünmüş hematin, atmosferik oksijenle yavaş yavaş reaksiyona girerek faydalı olmayan ürünler üretir. Asidik çözeltilerde, hematinin metallerle kompleksleri biyolojik lekeler olarak kullanılır. Alüminyum hematin, insan ve diğer hayvan dokularının kesitlerinde hücre çekirdeği için "rutin" leke niteliğindedir. Metal-hemampin lekeleri, sinir liflerinin miyelin kılıfları ve çeşitli sitoplazmik organelleri de içeren çekirdek dışındaki nesneler için de mevcuttur. Boyanan nesnelerin rengi kullanılan tuza bağlıdır. Alüminyum-hematin kompleksleri genellikle mavi, ferrik kompleksler ise çok koyu mavi veya siyahtır. Alüminyum-haematein kompleksleri, hücrelerin çekirdeklerinin kromatinine bağlanır.
