Ejnar Hertzsprung
Ejnar Hertzsprung, Danimarkalı bir kimyager ve astronom idi. Hertzsprung Kopenhag'da doğdu. 1911-1913 döneminde Henry Norris Russell ile birlikte Hertzsprung-Russell diyagramını geliştirdi. 1913 yılında istatistiksel paralaks ile birkaç Cepheid değişken yıldızına olan mesafeleri belirledi ve böylece Henrietta Leavitt tarafından keşfedilen ilişkiyi, Cepheid dönemi ve parlaklık arasında kalibre edebildi. Bu kararlılıkta bir hata yaptı, muhtemelen kalemin bir kaymasını yaparak yıldızları 10 kez çok yaklaştırdı. Bu ilişkiyi Küçük Magellan Bulutu'ndaki mesafeyi tahmin etmek için kullandı. 1919'dan 1946'ya kadar Hertzsprung, Hollanda'daki Leiden Gözlemevinde, 1937'den yönetmen olarak çalıştı.
