Ev serçe, dünyanın pek çok yerinde bulunan serçe ailesinin Passeridae kuşudur. Küçük bir kuş, tipik olarak 16 cm uzunluğunda ve 24-39.5 g ağırlığındadır. Dişiler ve genç kuşlar soluk kahverengi ve gri renklidir ve erkekler daha parlak siyah, beyaz ve kahverengi işaretlere sahiptir. Passer'da yaklaşık 25 türden biri olan ev serçe, Avrupa'nın çoğu bölgesi, Akdeniz bölgesi ve Asya'nın pek çoğunda bulunur. Avustralya, Afrika ve Amerika'nın bir bölümü dahil olmak üzere birçok bölgedeki kasıtlı ya da kazara tanıtımları onu en çok dağılmış yabani kuş haline getirir. Ev serçe insan yerleşimleri ile güçlü bir şekilde ilişkilidir ve kentsel veya kırsal bölgelerde yaşayabilir. Çok çeşitli habitatlarda ve iklimlerde bulunmasına karşın, genellikle geniş ormanlık alanlar, otlaklar ve insan gelişiminden uzaktaki çöllerden kaçınır. Çoğunlukla tahıl ve yabani otların tohumlarından beslenir, ancak fırsatçı bir yırtıcıdır ve genellikle böcekleri ve diğer birçok gıdayı yiyor. Yırtıcıları arasında evcil kediler, şahineler, baykuşlar ve diğer birçok yırtıcı kuşlar ve memeliler bulunur.
