Humus
Toprak bilimlerinde humus, istikrar noktasına ulaşan ve koşulları değişmezse yüz binlerce yıldır olduğu gibi kalmasına neden olan herhangi bir organik maddeye atıfta bulunmaktadır. Humus, toprağın yığın yoğunluğunu önemli ölçüde etkiler ve nem ve besin tutulumuna katkıda bulunur. Tarımda, humus bazen toprakları değiştirmek için bir ormandan veya diğer spontan kaynaklardan elde edilen olgun veya doğal kompostu tanımlamak için de kullanılır.
