Hiperstansiyon, ortorombik piroksenler grubuna ait yaygın bir kayaç oluşturan inosilikat mineralidir. Birçok referans bu terimi resmi olarak terk etmiş ve bu minerali enstatit veya ferrosilit olarak sınıflandırmayı tercih etmiştir. Taşkın ve bazı metamorfik kayaçlarda olduğu kadar taş ve demir meteoritlerinde de bulunur. İkisi arasında orta yol üyesi olan enstatit ve ferrosilit mineralleri ile sağlam bir çözüm serisi oluşturur. Saf enstatite demir içermezken saf ferrosilite magnezyum içermez; Hypersthene, her iki elementin de önemli miktarda bulunduğu minerallere verilen addır. Kimyasal formül SiO3'tür. Belirgin derecede gelişmiş kristaller nadirdir; mineral genellikle kurşun kayaçlar norite ve hiperten-andezit içine gömülü yapraklanmış kütleler olarak bulunur ve bu elementin temel bir unsuru oluşturduğu bilinmektedir. Labrador kıyısındaki Paul adasının iri taneli labradorit-hipersthenen kaya en tipik malzemeyi döşenmiştir; ve bu nedenle mineral Labrador hornblend veya paulit olarak bilinir. Renk genellikle gri, kahverengi veya yeşildir ve parlaklık genellikle incelikle vitrözdür.
