Meriones (cins)
Meriones, en sıklıkla evcil hayvan olarak saklanan gerbil'i, Meriones unguiculatus'u içeren bir kemirgen cinsidir. Cins, jird olarak anılan hayvanların çoğunu içerir, ancak Sekeetamys, Brachiones ve bazen Pachyuromys cinslerinin üyeleri de jird olarak bilinirler. Meriones dağılımı Kuzey Afrika'dan Moğolistan'a kadar değişir. Meriones jirds, kil çölü, kumlu çöl ve bozkır gibi kurak bölgelere girme eğilimindedir ancak aynı zamanda hafif ıslak bölgelerdedir ve tarımsal bir zararlıdır.
