Keynesyen ekonomi, kısa vadede, özellikle durgunluk dönemlerinde, ekonomik çıktı, toplam talepten güçlü bir şekilde etkilenmektedir. Keynesyen görüş açısından, toplu talep mutlaka ekonominin üretken kapasitesine eşit değildir; Bunun yerine bir dizi faktör etkilenir ve bazen kararsız davranıp üretim, istihdam ve enflasyonu etkilemektedir.
