Klephts, otoprodüktörler, Osmanlı karşıtı isyancılar ve Yunanistan'ın Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun bir parçası olduğu zaman kırsal kesimde yaşayan savaşa muhtaç dağcıları çeviren otoyollardı. On beşinci yüzyılda Osmanlı zulmünden kaçınmak için dağlara geri çekilen Rumların torunlarıydı. On dokuzuncu yüzyıla kadar Osmanlı yönetimine karşı sürekli bir savaş sürdürdüler ve haydut olarak faal kaldılar. Kleptomanya ve kleptokrasi terimleri, "çalmak" üzere aynı Yunan kökünden türetilmiştir.
