Kowhai
Kōwhai, Yeni Zelanda'ya özgü Sophora cinsindeki küçük, odunsu baklagil ağaçlarıdır. Sekiz türün Sophora microphylla ve S. tetraptera en çok büyük ağaç olarak tanınmaktadır. Doğal yaşam alanları derelerin yanındadır ve ormanın kenarlarında, dağlık veya açık alanlarda bulunur. Kōwhai ağaçları ülke genelinde büyür ve Yeni Zelanda bahçelerinde ortak bir özelliktir. Yeni Zelanda'nın dışında, Kōwhai hafif ılıman deniz iklimiyle sınırlanmış olma eğilimindedir. Kōwhai adı sarıya ait Māori kelimesinden gelir; çiçeğin rengine atıfta bulunur. Bazı bölgelerde buna kōhai denir. Genellikle adı kōwhai olarak yazılır. Resmi statüye sahip olmamasına rağmen, kōwhai'nin çiçekleri yaygın olarak Yeni Zelanda'nın ulusal çiçeği olarak görülüyor.
