Bir ışık ölçer ışık miktarını ölçmek için kullanılan bir cihazdır. Fotoğrafçılıkta, bir fotoğraf için uygun pozlamayı belirlemek için genellikle bir ışık ölçer kullanılır. Tipik olarak bir ışık ölçer, fotoğrafçıya belirli bir ışıklandırma durumu ve film hızı göz önüne alındığında, en iyi poz için hangi enstantane hızının ve f-numarasının seçileceğini belirlemesine olanak tanıyan bir dijital ya da analog bilgisayar içerecektir. Işık ölçerler, bir sahnenin optimum ışık seviyesini belirlemek için sinema ve sahne tasarımı alanlarında da kullanılır. Aydınlatma genel alanında, evde kullanılan atık ışık miktarını azaltmak, açık havada kirliliği hafif tutmak ve düzgün ışık seviyeleri sağlamak için bitki yetiştirme konusunda yardımcı olurlar.
