Bir takım tezgahı metal veya diğer sert malzemeleri genellikle kesme, delme, taşlama, makaslama veya diğer deformasyon şekilleri ile şekillendirmek veya işlemek için kullanılan bir makinedir. Takım tezgahları, kesme ve şekillendirme yapan bir takım araç kullanmaktadır. Tüm takım tezgahlarının, iş parçasını sınırlandırmak ve makinenin parçalarının kılavuz hareketi sağlamak için bazı vasıtaları vardır. Böylece, iş parçası ve kesici alet arasındaki göreceli hareket, makine tarafından tamamen "el altında" ya da "serbest elden" olmaktan çok, bir ölçüde kontrol altına alınır veya sınırlandırılır. Makine aracının teriminin kesin tanımı, aşağıda tartışıldığı gibi kullanıcılar arasında değişiklik göstermektedir.
