Mikroelektronik, elektronik alanlarından biridir. Adından da anlaşılacağı üzere, mikro elektronik, çok küçük elektronik tasarım ve bileşenlerin çalışması ve üretimi ile ilgilidir. Genellikle, fakat her zaman değil, bu mikrometre ölçeği veya daha küçük anlamına gelir. Bu cihazlar tipik olarak yarı iletken malzemelerden üretilmektedir. Normal elektronik tasarımın bir çok bileşeni bir mikro elektronik eşdeğeri ile bulunur. Bunlar, transistörler, kapasitörler, endüktörler, dirençler, diyotlar ve izolatörler ve iletkenler mikro elektron cihazlarında bulunabilir. Tel bağlama gibi benzersiz kablolama teknikleri, bileşenlerin, iletkenlerin ve yastıkların olağandışı boyutlarından dolayı mikroelektronikte sıkça kullanılır. Bu teknik özel donanım gerektirir ve pahalıdır. Dijital entegre devreler çoğunlukla transistorlerden oluşur. Analog devrelerde yaygın olarak dirençler ve kondansatörler bulunur. İndüktörler bazı yüksek frekanslı analog devrelerde kullanılır, ancak düşük frekanslarda kullanıldığında büyük çip alanını kullanma eğilimindedir; jyrators birçok uygulamada bunların yerini alabilir. Teknikler iyileştikçe mikroelektronik bileşenlerin ölçeği azalmaya devam ediyor.
