MICROFLORA SÖZCÜĞÜ İNGILIZCE DİLİNDE NE ANLAMA GELİR?

Mikrobiyom, "vücudumuzun yerini tam anlamıyla paylaşan komünal, simbiyotik ve patojen mikroorganizmaların ekolojik topluluğudur". Bu terim aslında sağlık ve hastalıkta insan vücudunda yaşayan mikroorganizmaların önemini savunan Joshua Lederberg tarafından ortaya çıkarıldı. Pek çok bilimsel makale, sırasıyla bir çevre nişinde bulunan mikroorganizmaların veya mikroorganizmaların kendilerinin kolektif genomlarını tanımlamak için "mikrobikom" ve "mikrobiyota" ayırt eder. Ancak orijinal tanımlara göre bu terimler büyük ölçüde eş anlamlıdır. İnsan vücudu, insan hücrelerinden 10 kat fazla mikrobiyal hücre içeriyor olsa da, tüm mikrobiyom sadece yaklaşık 200 gram ağırlığında ve bazı kilo tahminleri de 3 kilo kadar değişiyor. Bazıları, varlığını 1990'ların sonuna kadar genel olarak kabul edilmediği için onu "yeni keşfedilen bir organ" olarak düşünüyor ve potansiyel olarak insan sağlığı üzerinde çok büyük etkisi olduğu anlaşılıyor. Modern DNA dizileme teknikleri, araştırmacıların bu mikropların çoğunluğunu bulmalarını sağladı, çünkü çoğunluğu mevcut teknikler kullanılarak bir laboratuarda yetiştirilemezler.
