Mikroformlar, iletim, depolama, okuma ve yazdırma için mikroreproductions belgeler içeren filmler veya kağıtlar biçimindedir. Mikroform görüntüleri, orijinal doküman boyutunun yirmi beşte birine azaltılır. Özel amaçlı olarak, daha fazla optik indirgeme kullanılabilir. Tüm mikroform görüntüleri pozitif veya negatif, daha sık olarak ikinci olarak verilebilir. Üç format yaygın: mikrofilm, diyafram kartları ve mikrofiş. Artık üretilmeyen bir format olan mikro kartlar, mikrofişe benziyordu, ancak fotoğraf filminden ziyade karton üzerine basıldı.
