Elektronik ve telekomünikasyonda, modülasyon, taşıyıcı sinyal adı verilen periyodik bir dalga formunun bir veya daha fazla özelliğini, tipik olarak iletilecek bilgileri içeren bir modüle edici sinyal ile değiştirme işlemidir. Telekomünikasyonda, modülasyon, fiziksel olarak iletilebilen başka bir sinyalin içine, örneğin bir dijital bit akışı veya bir analog ses sinyali gibi bir mesaj sinyali iletme işlemidir. Bir sinüs dalga biçiminin modülasyonu, bir ana bant mesaj sinyalini bir geçiş bandı sinyaline dönüştürür. Bir modülatör modülasyon yapan bir cihazdır.
