Mysore, 1399'dan 1947'ye kadar yaklaşık altı yüzyıl boyunca Mysore Princely Kingdom'ın başkenti olan Karnataka, Hindistan eyaletinde üçüncü büyük şehirdir. Mysore Krallığı, 18. yüzyılın sonlarında Hyder Ali ve Tipu Sultan'ın iktidarda olduğu kısa bir süre dışında, Wodeyar hanedanı tarafından yönetildi. Sanat ve kültür patronları olan Wodeyars, kentin kültürel gelişimine büyük katkıda bulundu. Mysore'un kültürel ortamı ve kazanımları Karnataka'nın sofra kültür başkenti oldu.
