Netball, yedi oyuncuya ait iki takım tarafından oynanan top sporudur. Basketbolun erken sürümlerinden türetilen gelişimi, 1890'lı yıllarda İngiltere'de başladı. 1960 yılına gelindiğinde, oyun için uluslararası oyun kuralları standart hale getirildi ve Uluslararası Netball Federasyonu ve Kadın Basketbol Federasyonu (daha sonra Uluslararası Netball Federasyonu (INF) olarak değiştirildi) kuruldu. INF, 2011 yılı itibariyle beş global bölgede organize edilen 60'dan fazla milli takımdan oluşmaktadır. Oyunlar dikdörtgen bir kort üzerinde oynanıyor ve her iki ucunda da hedef yüzükleri yükseliyor. Her takım, bir topu mahkemeye bırakıp gol halkası üzerinden vurarak gol atmaya çalışıyor. Oyunculara, takım içindeki rollerini tanımlayan ve hareketlerini mahkemenin belirli alanlarına sınırlayan belirli pozisyonlar atanır. Genel oynamada, topa sahip bir oyuncu, bir gol atmaya veya başka bir oyuncuya geçmeden önce sadece üç saniye tutabilir. En çok gol atan takım kazanan takımdır. Netball oyunları 60 dakika sürer. Oyunun hızını arttırmak ve daha geniş bir kitleye hitap etmek için değişiklikler yapılmıştır.
