Nous, bazen akıl veya istihbarat olarak tanımlanır; klasik felsefede, gerçek veya gerçek olanın sezgisel anlamda olduğu gibi anlaşılması için gerektiği gibi açıklanan, insan zihninin fakültesi için felsefi bir terimdir. Sıkça kullanılan üç felsefi terim sırasıyla Yunanca, νοῦς veya νόος, Latin entelektüeri ve akıllıcadır. Felsefede, ortak İngilizce çeviriler "anlama" ve "zihin" i içerir; ya da bazen "düşünce" ya da "neden". Aynı zamanda, zihin içinde çalışması dışında algıya eşdeğer bir şey olarak da açıklanmaktadır.
