Siyasi bağlamda tazminat, çatışmadan kaçınmak için bir düşman iktidarına politik veya maddi imtiyazlar kazandırmanın diplomatik bir politikasıdır. Bu terim, çoğunlukla 1937-1939 yılları arasında Nazi Almanyasına yönelik İngiltere Başbakanı Neville Chamberlain'in dış politikasına uygulanır. Almanya'yla savaştan kaçınma politikaları yetmiş yıldır akademisyenler, politikacılar ve diplomatlar arasında yoğun tartışmalara konu olmuştur. Tarihçilerin değerlendirmeleri, Adolf Hitler'in Almanya'sının çok güçlü bir şekilde büyümesine izin vermek için kınama, onun alternatifi olmadığı ve İngiltere'nin çıkarları doğrultusunda hareket ettiği şeklinde değişti. O zamanlar bu imtiyazlar olumluydu ve Münih Paktı 30 Eylül 1938'de Almanya, İngiltere, Fransa ve İtalya arasında Chamberlain'in "zamanımız için barış" temin ettiğini duyurmasını istedi.
