Sözlükteki parametrik ilk tanım, aynı sayıda bağımsız değişkenin açık fonksiyonları olarak ve bu miktarların bazı doğrudan fonksiyonel ilişkisine eşdeğer olarak bir takım miktarı ifade etmektedir. Parametrikin diğer tanımı, davranışları dikkate alınmayan ve bu amaçla mevcut olan, kısmi türev ∂f / ∂x'de olduğu gibi sabit olarak kabul edilebilen bir değişkendir. Parametrik, bir popülasyondaki dağılımın karakteristik özelliklerinden biridir veya örnekleminkinden farklı olduğu anlamına gelir.
